-With the economic downturn in Iceland, which started in 2008, there is a silver lining for North American travelers. Costs have dropped for most services in Iceland. While the country considers a switch to the Euro as its local currency, possibly abandoning the Icelandic krónur, IST will provide the best pricing for all travel bookings. Pre-paying in US dollars through IST helps avoid local currency fluctuations, service provider changes in pricing during the year and foreign currency credit card charges.

- During the summer of 2012 Icelandair introduced service from Denver International Airport with 4 round trip flights per week. Icelandair will continue to provide two daily flights between Boston and Iceland, and JFK and Iceland. In addition, Icelandair provides non-stop flights originating from Denver, Dulles, Minneapolis and Seattle in the US and Halifax and Toronto in Canada.
